ISU-SALC
Senior Class Gift

The Senior Class Gift is an ISU tradition that annually allows members of the senior class to leave a special legacy at Iowa State University. Iowa State treasures such as State Gym, Parks Library, the Farm House Museum, Lake Laverne, the Campanile, Reiman Gardens, the Forker Building tennis courts, the Jack Trice Stadium Victory Bell, and the Memorial Union all owe at least a part of their existence to the generosity of senior class gifts.

The 2008 (150th Graduating Class) Senior Class Gift Ideas are:

1.  Now one of the largest public gardens in Iowa, Reiman Gardens creates a striking entrance to Iowa State University and the city of Ames. Reiman Gardens has many award-winning features, and has recently planted one of the first rose gardens in a public garden that incorporates sustainable design, plants, and gardening practices. The class gift would help keep Reiman Gardens a part of our Campus Heritage and a part of the 150th Celebration. A class gift plaque would be put up to inform passers-by of the gift.

2.  Since the founding of Iowa State University in 1858, its campus and landscape have been enhanced in countless ways. Every class has the opportunity to leave behind a thank-you gift that supports the continuous growth of campus. The 150th class would help add a stunning gateway to Iowa State University. The class gift would support the preliminary design of the signage and identification project. Signs would be placed along the University Blvd and Lincoln Way roadways directing individuals to various destinations at Iowa State.

3.  The Bryon and Elizabeth Anderson Sculpture Garden will develop a sculpture garden on the south and west side of Morrill Hall as an extension of the University museums' Art on Campus Program and Visual Literacy and Learning Program. The Class of 2008 will fund the installations of a portion of the permanent collections sculptures to be placed within the garden. These sculptures would be curated by the museum staff from the existing Art on Campus Collection, and should be installed in fall 2008. The Anderson Sculpture Garden will likely be dedicated during Homecoming 2008.

Look for an e-mail near the end of March on how you can vote on the Senior Class Gift to be selected!

2007 Senior Class Gift

The votes are in, and the clear winner is a new concert sound system for the Memorial Union's Great Hall. Through a generous gift from an ISU alumnus, the Memorial Union's Great Hall will be restored as part of the current renovation project at the Union. In addition to the renovation, your gift will help provide a concert-quality sound system in the Great Hall.

Student and campus organization spend thousands of dollars each year to rent concert sound systems for Great Hall events such as Varieties, Cyclone Idol, and other live performances. Your class gift will help purchase and install a custom designed concert sound system that will enhance the Great Hall's production capabilities and save organizations the expense and inconvenience of renting a sound system from an off-site source.
